Michigan Transition Services Association (MTSA)

Message from the Incoming MTSA President!

Hello MTSA Members and Colleagues,

I am truly honored to step into the role of President of the Michigan Transition Services Association, and I’m excited for the opportunity to serve and support our students, families, educators, and community partners over the next year.

With over 20 years in education—most of them focused on transition—I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside young people and their families as they prepare for life beyond school. In my current role as the Director of Transition and Job Attainment at Livingston Educational Service Agency, I get to create pathways for adults with disabilities to lead independent, fulfilling, and purpose-driven lives.

This work is not possible without the powerful partnerships we have across our communities. Collaboration with community partners—employers, service agencies, advocacy organizations, and local leaders—is the heart of successful transition planning. These partnerships ensure our learners are not just prepared for the world, but truly included in it. The commitment, flexibility, and shared vision of our partners amplify the impact of our work, and I’m deeply grateful for those relationships.

On a personal note, my husband Jeff and I have been married for over 30 years and are the proud parents of three amazing adult children—and one very special dog, Lucy. We’re also the joyful grandparents of our grandson, Levi. Our son Jonah, who has epilepsy and non-verbal autism, continues to be one of my greatest inspirations. Jonah has taught me to find joy in small moments—the sound and smell of fall leaves, the power of presence, and the gift of a simple smile. He reminds me every day why inclusive, person-centered systems matter so deeply.

As I begin this leadership journey, I do so with immense gratitude and hope. I look forward to strengthening our partnerships, learning from each of you, and continuing to advance meaningful, inclusive transition services across Michigan.

With appreciation,

Alana Anderson
